Tuscany

Tuscany (Italian Toscana) is a region in central Italy, bordering on Latium to the south, Umbria and Marche to the east, Emilia-Romagna and Liguria to the north, and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west. It is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Italy. Tuscany was essentially the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, and its artistic heritage includes architecture, painting and sculpture, collected in dozens of museums, the best-known of which is the Uffizi in Florence and in situ in even quite small cities. Tuscany is known for its wines (most famous of which are Chianti, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino) and has 120 protected regions (nature reserves). Notable tourist destinations in Tuscany include Florence, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, the Maremma, the Crete Senesi, the Lunigiana and Garfagnana areas, and the island of Elba.

MONTECATINI TERME: Until 1928 known as Bagni di Montecatini, and from 1927 part of the province of Pistoia. The curative virtues of its waters were recongnized and appreciated already in the XIV century and in 1417 Doctor Ugolino Simoni, founder of the italian hydrology, illustrated in a treatise the therapeutic properties. The thermal establishments are a must while visiting Montecatini. In addition to experiencin...

SIENA: A wonderful city that is the home of some of the most precious medieval art and architectural treasures. Siena offers a never-ending number of cultural sights and interests for travelers: the unique “Palio” and wine tasting in the old wine bars, romantic walks along the narrow alleys and excursions outside the city in the Siena Chianti area and in Val’Orcia.

PISA: Pisa, renowned worldwide for its Leaning Tower, definitely deserves more than the usual day stop which traditionally occurs on tourist routes. The Maremma is one of the least populous parts of Italy, a place of large spaces where he...

FLORENCE: "Florentia", the florid, was the name given by the Romans to this small settlement located at the foot of the ancient Etruscan Fiesole and founded in the first century BC. The Etruscans, an ancient and mysterious race, of whom we know very little, but who left numerous testimonies around about Florence, had settled on the hills surrounding the plain of the river Arno as far back as the VII-VI cent...

ELBA and CAPRAIA: Legend has it that Tuscan Archipelago had its origins when a necklace slid from the neck of Venus, the Goddess of beauty and love, and fell into the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. This delightful story surely holds a gain of truth, for there is no doubt in our mind that that islands of the Archipelago are truly fragments of paradise. Few other tourist resorts in the world can boast such rich and v...
