Canazei is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Trento in the Italian region Trentino-South Tyrol, located about 70 km northeast of Trento. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,829 and an area of 67.3 km².[1] The municipality of Canazei contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Alba, Passo Pordoi, Penia, Pian Schiavaneis, Rifugio Dolomia al Passo Fedaia, Rifugio Maria al Sass Pordoi, Rifugio Marmolada - Castiglioni, Rifugio Monti Pallidi, Rifugio Pian dei Fiacconi, Rifugio Piz Fassa, Rifugio Punta Penia, Rifugio Seggiovia Marmolada, Rifugio Tobià del Giagher, Rifugio Viel dal Pan, and Sass Pordoi. Canazei borders the following municipalities: Selva di Val Gardena, Corvara-Corvara in Badia, Livinallongo del Col di Lana, Campitello di Fassa, Mazzin, Pozza di Fassa, and Rocca Pietore.
